Production Technician

15-25 hours Per Week Part-time

Hourly Wage Commensurate With Experience

Pittsburgh Community Television (PCTV) is Pittsburgh’s public access media center, serving the City of Pittsburgh and its 86,000 cable subscribers.  Founded in 1986, PCTV operates a television production facility on Pittsburgh’s Northside and broadcasts programming 24/7 on Pittsburgh Comcast Channel 21, Pittsburgh Verizon Channel 47 and on the web at


Under the supervision of the Director of Community Production, the Production Technician is responsible for assisting community members in the production of public access programming at PCTV.  Key duties include handling all production aspects of studio production during assigned shifts, assisting public access producers with post-production tasks, and instructing community members in the use of equipment.  The primary focus of the position is to serve the production needs of public access users.


Primary Duties Include:


  • Assist members of the public in the production of public access programming in the studio, providing all technical assistance necessary including lighting, audio, and technical direction.

  • Assist members of the public with post-production tasks.

  • Check equipment in and out, ensuring the return of equipment in working order.


Additional Duties:


  • As necessary, participate in the production of PCTV staff-produced programming in the studio and field.

  • Various office tasks as necessary, including phone answering.

  • Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:


Knowledge Skills and Abilities:


Working knowledge of:

  • Technical aspects of video production, including field and studio production, operation of cameras, lighting, sound engineering, iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere and other digital editing systems.

  • Mac and PC computers.


Skills Required:

  • Strong people skills.

  • Proven excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • General computer systems and networks and programs such as Microsoft Word, Photoshop , Microsoft Excel.

  • Experience in a television studio setting and proficiency in Adobe Premiere post-production software.                                                                                                                              

Demonstrated Ability to:

  • Manage multiple priorities.

  • Work creatively and flexibly in a team environment.


Additional Requirements:

  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Pennsylvania driver's license, have a safe driving record, and maintain Pennsylvania minimum required automobile insurance.

  • May need to occasionally use a personal vehicle for business-related travel in the area.



  • Experience with the Newtek Tricaster multi-camera production system.

  • Knowledge of the Pittsburgh community.
