The New Digital PCTV

In all honesty, I wanted to be on the radio.
I had done radio engineering and on-air work
in college, worked part-time at WKST AM in
New Castle, PA for a while and was attracted
to the creative aspects of audio production.
When it came time for an internship I was
encouraged to try something different…so I
applied for an internship with Warner Cable's
Community Communications department.
It was just like radio…with pictures. I applied
for an open position after graduation and,
much to my surprise, was asked to return.

It was then I began my career in television production…
in this very same place (sort of) in 1982. It was still
Warner at the time, but had morphed into present state
by the time I left in 1988 to accept a position at Carnegie Mellon producing instructional media. I've also done a fair amount of freelance over the years…from robots to social service documentaries in South Philadelphia. It's been an interesting trip so far.

So, 17 or so years and a few gray hairs later…I'm back. Some faces are different, but it's like it always was. The people here are great to work with, the atmosphere is relaxed, and I really enjoy helping people turn their ideas into television. The most enjoyable aspect of what I do is edit training…when you see the light bulb appear above people's heads… you see the genesis of the creative process as they begin to realize the potential of the newer digital gear. I like to shoot, edit, light…every once in a while I fix stuff. I'm also a member of AECT (the Association for Educational Communications and Technology) and continue to enjoy the occasional opportunities to consult on distance education and instructional technology projects.
